AOSEC Machinery of Government Events
AOSEC has held a number of briefings in June for colleges and policy-makers to discuss the implications of the Machinery of Government changes within the South East. The events have been attended by Principals, Governors, senior college staff and key representatives of the Learning and Skills Council including Henry Ball and the new appointed LSC SE Regional Director, Marinos Paphitis.
The twilight functions began with presentations by AOSEC's Chief Executive, Jan Edrich, outlining the key developments, including the new role for Local Authorities overseeing 14-19 provision and the establishment of a Skills Funding Agency. This was followed by a Principal's perspective and concluded with Henry Ball sharing his views on the main challenges facing South East Colleges in the new system.
The subsequent open discussions were highly productive, with Governors providing a complementary outlook from business.
AOSEC looks forward to replicating these functions with similar events in the future to ensure colleges are ahead in shaping the new education and skills agenda.
