AoC Beacon Awards 2007 - 2008

AOSEC are once again delighted to congratulate the South East Colleges on a successful performance in this year's AoC Beacon Awards. Two of the region's Colleges were acknowledged in the 2007-2008 programme for their outstanding work. Chichester College collected 'The Edexcel Award for Lifelong Learning' for their Art, Design and Media Department and the Isle of Wight College received 'The Ufi/ learndirect Award for Delivering Learning through learndirect Centres in Colleges' for their COOLspot centre. The awards were presented to college representatives by David Lammy MP (Under-Secretary of State for Skills) at the National Award Ceremony held on the 7th of May in London.


The Isle of Wight College also celebrated in style with their own celebration evening held on the 21st of April. The evening gave students the opportunity to showcase their work and granted instrumental staff members Falan titchmarshidelma Washington (Acting Director of Workforce Skills and Offender Learning) and Sarah Snowdon (Learning Centre Manager) a platform to discuss their highly successful and engaging project. The celebrations were also given a further boost by the presence of TV personality and High Sherriff of the Isle of Wight, Alan Titchmarsh who presented the COOLspot Student Awards. The college were also presented with a cheque for £5,000 by Malcolm Ming (South East Regional Director for University for Industry, which will be used to further develop the COOLspot provision.

Jan Edrich, AOSEC Chief Executive/ AoC South East Regional Director was also invited to join the celebrations and in a brief address congratulated the college on this wonderful and highly significant recognition of their work, she also took the opportunity to thank the sponsor for their much valued contribution to the process.
