Mid-Kent College – Kent's largest further and higher education - serves Maidstone, the county town of Kent and the Medway towns of Rochester and Chatham. Enrolments totalling around 15,000 comprise c. 4,000 full-time and c. 10,000 part-time students on FE and vocational courses funded by the Learning & Skills Council; with a further 100 full-time and 750 part-time students enrolled on Higher Education Funding Council funded courses.Mid-Kent College's extensive provision encompasses diverse service industries, arts and humanities, business and commerce, engineering disciplines, computing and IT, sciences, languages and supported learning. The student population includes sizeable cohorts of 14-16, 16-19, workbased learning, adult vocational and employer related categories. Study levels and qualifications available at Mid-Kent College range from Basic Skills and courses for those with special educational needs, through A Level and BTEC National, up to HND and beyond to degree, via the college's close association with the University of Kent.
The college actively participates in many cross-sectoral education initiatives, particularly with local education authority schools, HE providers and universities. Responsiveness to employers' needs has resulted in Mid-Kent College being the first in the UK to be awarded prestigious 'Action for Business College' (ABC) status.
Mid-Kent College is soon to develop a multi-million pound purpose built campus in Medway, which – in conjunction with university partners' Medway based developments – will play a key role in the revitalisation of Medway's education status within the growing Thames Gateway region.
