South East Learning and Skills Awards 2008

Students from Further Education Colleges throughout the South East were successful across a whole range of categories in the South East Learning and Skills Awards, announced on 22nd May.

The prestigious Awards Ceremony was co-hosted by Matt Dawson MBE, England's World Cup winning rugby player, and Charlotte Hawkins, Sky News presenter.  Dr Norman Boyland, Chair of the LSC SE Board, said: "We had nearly 350 entries this year comprising many powerful stories of achievement and success.  Congratulations to all our worthy finalists."

In the Train to Gain section of the awards Frantisek Havilec, who trained at Chichester College, won the Outstanding Learner category; and Robert Morgan, who is currently studying towards an Intermediate Level 2 qualification in Hospitality and Catering at West Kent College was highly commended in the 14 -19 Achiever category.

In the Skills for Life category, Lorna Wright, a student at Totton College was the winner, whilst Jason Parker, from Barton Peveril College, was highly commended.

Elsewhere in the Apprentice of the Year category, David Smith who is working towards a Foundation Modern Apprenticeship in Bricklaying at East Berkshire College was highly commended; and in the Young Apprenticeship category, Alexander Lacey from Basingstoke College of Technology was highly commended.

In the Personal Achiever category, Ben Eden who works for CNC Techniques whilst studying at Oxford and Cherwell Valley College was highly commended.
