Sussex Downs College
Sussex Downs College, one of the largest and most successful colleges in the South East with sites in Eastbourne, Lewes, Newhaven and Hailsham, prides itself on creating a specifically-tailored learning experience for every student. The college regularly has the highest number of students taking A levels in the South East region. Out of 1,100 students taking A level exams, on average over 750 achieve the university entry grades of A-C.
During 2008, The Minister of State for Education, Bill Rammell MP, officially awarded the largest FE college in Sussex the "Learning and Skills Beacon Status" in recognition for its "outstanding performance."
The awarding of Beacon status follows the success the college received after being praised by OFSTED for its 'outstanding leadership and management' and the quality of its teaching and learning following its inspection in March 2007.
Sussex Downs College incorporates Park College, Lewes 6th Form and Eastbourne Vocational College. Lewes 6th Form College offers courses in both academic and vocational subjects, with qualifications ranging from GCSEs to foundation degrees. Students can study a broad and balanced choice of courses at a level that suits them.

At Park College in Eastbourne, students benefit from a supportive tutorial network to boost their academic studies. With many sporting, creative and social events available, students can add a further dimension to their work.
Sussex Downs College also offers courses for mature learners through the Adult College. Employer Training, the college's employer relations arm, can help students keen to get into the world of work and the International College is aimed at helping European and international students to achieve their goals.
Sussex Downs College also works closely with local schools to help meet the needs of young people in the area. The college offers 14-16 year-olds the opportunity to undertake work based learning during years 10 and 11. They can undertake a range of vocational programmes at the college as part of their key stage 4 programme. Students usually attend college for one day a week and many spend a further day on a work placement giving them a real chance to pursue their interests and gain valuable training and work experience.
Numerous awards, strong student success, brand new multimedia facilities and praise from OFSTED underlines that Sussex Downs College is the FE college of the future. Outstanding College, Outstanding Futures.
