A Specialist Land- based College with centres at Plumpton, Netherfield, Flimwell, and Brighton.
Plumpton College is located at the foot of the South Downs, close to Lewes, nine miles from Brighton and an hour from London, with major transport routes within easy reach. It is situated in the heart of the new South Downs National Park surrounded by its own two thousand acre estate.
The college provides a perfect study environment, with excellent practical and demonstration facilities for students across a very wide range of land-based courses.
The extensive and successful range provides courses for school-based 14 to 16-year-olds, programmes for 16 to 19-year-olds, a range of degree level subjects and diverse part time courses for employers and adults. Higher Education is provided in partnership with the University of Brighton.
Substantial investment has taken place to provide buildings to accommodate the College’s recent expansion. New buildings include libraries, classrooms, machinery centre, residential accommodation, animal care, veterinary nursing, equine facilities and development of the dairy facilities at the farm.
The College’s centre in Brighton is based at Stanmer Park, where the focus is on horticultural courses. The college is responsible for forestry, woodland and countryside management provision at the Woodland Enterprise Centre, Flimwell. The College’s successful Sustainable Food, Farm and Forestry Centre is also housed at Flimwell, in the east of the county.
Netherfield, near Battle, hosts a range of school and level one and two provision.
Some 200 students are residential at the main College campus. The college prides itself on the extra pastoral and academic support that it provides for all students.
Plumpton College regrets that, very reluctantly, the decision has been made to cancel the Open Day on Saturday 12 May 2012. The reason for this is that whereas the College can cope with the expected numbers of visitors around the College buildings, unfortunately the car parking fields are currently too wet. And although Saturday is forecast to be drier, there is a lot of rain forecast for Wednesday and Thursday. Since public safety is the foremost concern this decision has been taken with great reluctance and is much regretted.
The Principal, staff and students at Plumpton College appreciate all the efforts many people have put into this event. They are very unhappy about having to make this decision, especially in a drought. Plumpton College has cancelled the Open Day a couple of times before in the past, and only because of ground conditions. Plumpton College intends to have an event on Thursday 28 June when enquirers can get careers advice and find out about Land Based courses available
